BIOGRAPHY
TRIPLE
KAY
Triple Kay Band, on a journey to take
Dominica and its music throughout the world has been the motto which governs the
efforts of the group and has fostered the environment for its eminence during
its reign.
The name of the band is a replica of its
members and their environment as each letter denotes a members name and the
place where they reside. Thus the group had been fostered in the scenic, tourist
destination community of Laudat and this led to its emergence. In addition, the
band has been together for the past six years. During this time, the dedication,
talent and time of its hardworking members have contributed tremendously to its
continuance and the growth in creativity of each album.
The band has produced four albums namely
– “Big Ting” – “Fanatik” – “Sewo” and the latest 2006 album “All Out”. During
production, the goal of the band was to diversify the current musical era and
collectively this was achieved. This was accomplished by mastering all the types
of music the fans and foreign market yearned for and required and this accounts
for the significant growth of the band from one stage to another. Thus the band
performs zouk, compas, reggae, cadance, dancehall and our own local bouyon music
and has mastered the musical touch of all the above mentioned.
Moreover, the band has not only kept up
to the task of just playing music and mastering its various types but has
invested in the methods of execution and performance. Again, because of its
incessant efforts and success, Triple kay is esteemed and highly dignified in
its homeland. This recognition led to the renowned opportunity to perform in one
of Dominica’s biggest musical events, the World Creole Music Festival in 2002
and 2005 gaining the exposure for future international events. In 2004, Triple
Kay was named Band of The Year and among all the other bands on the island the
“Cadance Musical Touch” was passed on to the band by the legends of Cadance
lypso at the Fort Young Hotel. The band was again named 2005 Band of the Year
and also copped the title of Song of the year, “Sewo”. Wayne “Benji” Benjamin
the band’s lead vocalist was recognized as the Best male Artist of the year at
the 2005 Flamboyant Awards.
Not only has the band gained local
recognition but international as well. In 2004, the band traveled to England,
St. Martin, Saba and Guadeloupe, in 2005 has been to Antigua, St. Vincent, New
York and back to London among other territories and in 2006 Guadeloupe, Antigua,
St. Martin, New York, Miami, Belgium and London. The band has also performed in
many small festivals and other local events. These opportunities have opened
doors to the band as being proud ambassadors to Dominica on numerous occasions.
So far, the band has received tremendous support at all its performances and has
been encouraged to persevere.
Triple Kay band has also throughout the
times gained the musical spirit of three experienced musicians who have
